Nobody quite knows what James Evan does. He writes things down, asks too many questions and occasionally has an opinion about something. He has a habit of becoming unnecessarily interested in the things other people overlook, which has led him into conversations, places and subjects he probably had no business being in. Somehow, this became a career.
Because one thing often leads to another, he decided to create Chronicle 19 and got in touch with similar minded people to make it happen. Against all odds, they succeeded. And here we are!
Obviously James Evans is a pen name, but the personality behind it shines so brightly it becomes irrelevant… or not. You decide.
Michael Vale is one of the editors and founding voices behind Chronicle 19, an independent LGBTQ+ publication covering culture, entertainment, politics, travel, healthcare and the wonderfully absurd realities of modern queer life.
He joined the project because the internet did not need another conveyor belt of polished, interchangeable content. It needed more personality, curiosity and writers willing to have an actual point of view.
Drawing on a professional background in healthcare, Michael writes about the subjects that shape queer life, from health and transgender rights to political representation, pop divas, television, relationships and the occasional public-service announcement nobody requested. His work combines serious commentary with humour, cultural nostalgia and a healthy suspicion of anyone claiming to possess all the answers.
He believes queer journalism should document more than conflict. It should also capture joy, progress, desire, ridiculousness and the ordinary lives that continue beyond the latest outrage cycle.
Michael is particularly interested in where queer culture meets healthcare, politics, entertainment and social change. He appreciates chosen families, courageous storytelling, reinvention and divas who return from commercial disaster with a number-one album.
Michael Vale is a pen name. The ideas, opinions and questionable jokes are entirely his own.
