Will Poulter, Kit Connor and Manu Ríos to Star in Queer Medieval Zombie Horror

Kit Connor, Will Poulter and Manu Ríos are teaming up for Rapture, a queer medieval horror film set during the Black Death, where a group of monks find themselves facing a terrifying outbreak and the undead.

Will Poulter, Kit Connor and Manu Ríos are set to star in Rapture, a new queer horror film that combines the Black Death, medieval monks and zombies.

Directed by Canadian playwright and filmmaker Jordan Tannahill, Rapture is set in Yorkshire in 1348, as the Black Death reaches England. The story follows ten monks living in an isolated abbey whose lives are disrupted when a messenger arrives with news of a mysterious disease.

But the outbreak is far more terrifying than they could have imagined. Those infected with the plague return from the dead as creatures known as “revenants”, turning the isolated abbey into a fight for survival.

A queer love story at the heart of the horror

Alongside the horror, Rapture will feature a love story between two of the monks. Tannahill has described the project as “queer body horror” and said the film centres on a deep and passionate relationship between two young monks who have grown up together.

It has not yet been revealed which two of the three actors will play the couple.

Connor is best known internationally for playing Nick Nelson in Heartstopper. Poulter has appeared in films including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Warfare, while Spanish actor Manu Ríos rose to international fame as Patrick Blanco in Élite and later appeared alongside Ethan Hawke in Pedro Almodóvar’s Strange Way of Life.

Rapture was originally expected to begin filming earlier, but production was delayed. The latest production information points to filming beginning in October 2026, with Hungary among the planned filming locations.

The project marks Tannahill’s feature-film directorial debut. Elevation Pictures, 2AM and Brookstreet Pictures are producing the film, with IFC and Shudder handling its US release and True Brit distributing it in the UK.

Rapture does not yet have an official release date. If production goes ahead as currently planned, the film is expected to arrive in 2027.
